GOVERNMENT DECIDES TO RENAME WEST BENGAL TO “BONGO”

Webdesk, TNI Kolkata, 02nd August, 2016: The Cabinet of West Bengal today decided to rename the state of West Bengal to Bengal in English and Bongo/Bangla in Bengali. This was today informed to the press by the Education minister of West Bengal Dr. Partha Chatterjee. He also further said that a special assembly session for passing the motion. Some officials in the government said that the Government decided to drop “West” from the name of the state so that it does not come last alphabetically. Such step was actually predicted because it comes after the chief minister got to speak last at the Inter-State Council Meeting earlier this month, according to The Indian Express.
